City of Chicago (1960)

The plaque below, awarded in 1960, is displayed in the lobby of both buildings. It is unclear what this designation confers — the Commission on Chicago Landmarks and its processes of formal landmark designation were not established until 1968. The lobby plaques appear to be a one-off honorific bestowed by the mayor, Richard J. Daley, in recognition of the importance of the 860|880 buildings.
